Drunk driving increases during the holidays

Tis the season for holiday parties and family gatherings, and with this increase in festive activities comes an increase in opportunities for driving after drinking. It is easy, and far too common, to assume that it's no big deal to have a few drinks at a holiday party or big family meal and get back on the road. However, the statistics do support that notion. Over the Thanksgiving week of 2016, a concerted effort on the part of Colorado law enforcement lead to the arrest of 518 drivers over only a 10-day period.

It is vital that you consider all the possibilities and alternatives during the holiday season. The aim of law enforcement is fairly straightforward -- minimizing injuries and lives lost in this season of increased traffic, worsened conditions and greater numbers of impaired drivers on the road. There is no need for you to face harsh consequences for a foolish momentary decision, nor do you want to be responsible of the injury or death of another person.

Unfortunately, it is still very likely that many individuals will choose to drive after drinking this holiday season. If you are caught and charged, even if no one is harmed, you may be facing very harsh sentencing. Drunk driving charges are nothing to play with -- especially for those who have one or more counts of DUI on their record already. Drunk driving charges can result in very heavy fines and extensive jail time if not properly handled.

The most important thing this holiday season is to stay safe and keep yourself from contributing to the endangerment of others. However, if you have a lapse in judgement, then it is vital to make sure that you are not paying for this mistake for years to come. The representation of an experienced attorney can fight for your rights and ensure that your case is heard fairly
