Holiday celebration crackdown nets hundreds across Colorado

Regular readers of our blog about DUI defense will recall that in our most recent post, we warned drivers of upcoming New Year’s Eve enforcement patrols. Not only will the Denver Police Department have extra cars and officers in strategic spots that night looking for drunken drivers, but so will other metro departments.

The enhanced patrols recently rolled out for a “Holiday Office Party” enforcement period, with hundreds of Colorado motorists arrested as a result. The period was earlier this month, from Dec. 5 through Dec. 15. Here in Denver, 99 drivers were charged with DUI during the 10 days.

The Aurora Police Department made 74 arrests, while Colorado Springs officers took 51 people into custody on drunk driving charges.

Adams County sheriff’s deputies notched 23 arrests, while the Commerce City Police Department reported 17.

El Paso County sheriff’s deputies said they arrested 18 and the Greenwood Village Police Department filed charges against 15 drivers.

All together, 610 drivers across Colorado face DUI charges as a result of arrests during the enforcement period. Some of them will plead guilty and face the harsh penalties the state has to offer, including jail time, driver’s license suspension, mandated installation of an ignition interlock device, fines, fees and more.

Others won’t give in so easily. They will take their cases to experienced defense attorneys who will examine the facts and advise them of legal options they have to avoid the harshest penalties – and then help them pursue those options in negotiations with prosecutors or at trial.
