Super Bowl Sunday will mean DUI arrests for many in Colorado

Denver Broncos fans have waited more than 15 years to see their team in the Super Bowl, and it is finally happening this weekend. But with all of the excitement, don't forget to arrange a sober ride if you plan on drinking while watching the big game.

Police and sheriff's departments throughout the state will be ramping up DUI enforcement methods beginning today and ending Monday morning in effort to curb drunk driving.

"With the Broncos playing in the Super Bowl, we expect house parties and full bars and restaurants throughout Colorado," said the chief of the Colorado State Patrol in a press release. "Motorists can expect to see a visible presence from law enforcement this weekend, working to keep impaired drivers off the roads."

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) reported that there were 421 DUI arrests made last year over Super Bowl weekend, and the number will likely be much higher this year with the Broncos contending for the win.

But that means even if the Broncos win, you could still lose by ending up with a DUI this weekend. Drunk driving has some very serious consequences under Colorado law, and a conviction could potentially ruin your life.

Not only could you end up with a suspended licenses and large fines, you could also end up with a permanent criminal record that could cost you a job or a loan in the future.

For these reasons, it's important to contact an experienced defense lawyer after being accused of driving under the influence of alcohol.

With that said, enjoy the game -- responsibly!
