Each year, over 30,000 people in Colorado are arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. With each holiday, we see a spike in DUI arrests. Thanksgiving may not be the first holiday people associate with DUI, but it is one of the busiest holidays of the year in DUI terms. With Thanksgiving around the corner, the state of Colorado is planning a crackdown on DUI and traffic violations enforcement.
Law enforcement officials are continuing their “Heat is on” campaign. The campaign is a high visibility campaign and involves public awareness, as well as increased saturation DUI patrols. Last year, we saw the first official Thanksgiving DUI crackdown, which lead to many arrests. This year looks to be similar across the state and locally. Denver police have announced they will be increasing staffing levels and patrols from November 23 through November 29.
In Colorado, if you are arrested for DUI, it is important to act quickly. Experienced DUI attorneys know that action must be taken quickly to avoid suspension of your license. They also understand no matter how bad the evidence against you may seem, it pays to fight for your rights. Much of the evidence brought against a DUI defendant depends on the sobriety test. However, the equipment used in testing and the testing procedures themselves are prone to errors. This evidence can be challenged in court.
If you or a loved one is arrested for DUI this holiday season, an experienced DUI lawyer can help you understand your legal rights and options. The DUI system can often be confusing to defendants and their families, but attorneys are available to help you navigate the system and develop a strong legal defense that will best protect your rights.
