Colorado Rockies owner facing drunk driving charges after arrest

Sometimes when people are in very public positions in their community, they face increased scrutiny when they are arrested. Earlier this week, the co-owner of the Colorado Rockies, Charlie Monfort, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Colorado. Sometimes people can face more pressure to plead guilty and assume responsiblity for an alleged crime when they are the leader of a prominent organization.

This can result in deep embarrassment for the person, their family and the organization. Many times public relations experts and communications department of companies are quick to want to make a statement. However, these statements can sometimes sound incriminating.

Speaking with an experienced criminal defense attorney before speaking to authorities or the press might be a wise decision. They can help a person understand their rights and advise them of what the person may or may not want to say publicly or to investigators.

Sometimes, seemingly harmless statements can be taken out of context, and can make a person sounds guilty. While it is important that a person is able to have a fair trial, it is equally important that the person's reputation is protected.

An experienced Colorado criminal defense attorney who has experience handling drunk driving cases can help a person handle public situations and help them form a rigorous defense. These cases can also involve dependency issues, which might be important for a person to address. If the person does need help with dependency, they might be better off getting that they would from paying fines or serving time in jail.
