What Will it Take for Me to Get My License Back?
Depending on your driving record, the Colorado DMV may require you to meet certain conditions to reinstate your driver’s license. In many cases, these requirements are not negotiable:
- An interlock device requires the driver to blow cleanly into a machine in order to start your car. The machine keeps a log of each breath you provide and reports directly to the DMV if there are any violations. If you are determined to be a persistent drunk driver, the interlock requirement is usually for two years.
- SR-22 insurance is typically required for a three-year period if you have been determined to be a persistent drunk driver. This policy can be purchased through your insurance like normal. If you fail to make payments, however, your insurance company will inform the DMV and suspend your license.
Although you cannot modify these requirements the DMV imposes them, you can still fight to prevent them from ever happening at the original DMV hearing. With countless DMV hearings under our belts, our lawyers are well-qualified to represent you in these matters.
