Recent CO drug sting underscores state’s resolve, resources

One of our website practice pages at the established Denver criminal defense law firm of Shazam Kianpour & Associates references a number of drugs that become problematic for arrested Colorado residents.

Unsurprisingly, marijuana is one cited entry. So too is cocaine. Ditto that for methamphetamine, OxyContin and hallucinogenic mushrooms. We stress that an individual facing criminal charges linked with one or more of those drugs potentially has “big problems.”

All those drugs and more are prominently cited in a recent Denver Post article reporting on the culmination of a drug-focused sting operation jointly conducted by multiple police agencies and departments.

That effort – labeled Operation Malverde – reached its warrant-execution and evidence-seizure stage earlier this month following an extensive eight-month probe. It resulted in the arrests of 10 persons from an assortment of Front Ridge towns and municipalities.

Those individuals now face a lengthy laundry list of both misdemeanor and felony criminal counts for their alleged involvement in what has been termed an extensive “criminal ring.” Authorities accuse the suspects of participating in a large-scale scheme to unlawfully sell and distribute drugs ranging widely from heroin to fentanyl.

Collectively, they are charged with more than 120 felony counts. Those include conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, money laundering and resisting arrest.

As is customarily the case with drug-related enforcement operations, the probe was centrally marked by its impressive scope and attendant resources made available to sustain it. The Post article cites the participation of at least six SWAT teams from various Colorado counties.

We duly note on our website the harsh penalties for felony drug charges in Colorado, and a criminal suspect’s need for a timely and knowledgeable legal strategy to defend against them
