Why are traffic tickets fundamentally unfair?

We lead off today’s blog post by asking our readers from across Colorado and elsewhere to consider traffic tickets for a moment.

Are they uniformly fair to all? That is, do their consequences fall upon all ticked individuals with similar severity?

Perhaps that is a question with an answer so obvious that it doesn’t even need to be asked. We pose it primarily for the sake of illustration and to underscore a most basic point.

And that is this, as noted in a recent article spotlighting the fundamental unfairness of fines imposed on ticketed offenders: Although a couple hundred bucks demanded of a speeding millionaire might rise to the level of slight irritation and nothing more, that same exaction on many individuals and families can topple them off a financial cliff.

It’s not right, and it cannot be logically argued that it is. Research findings from a Princeton University study underscore with force that ticketed offenses “are little more than a nuisance” to affluent motorists, but having the ability to steer legions of other motorists “into a poverty trap.”

We recognize that acutely at the Denver criminal defense firm of Shazam Kianpour & Associates. A traffic ticket odyssey is not a game to any of our valued clients. An offense tied to something like speeding has the instant potential to turn a life upside down. We note on our website that it can alter personal circumstances “dramatically.”

We empathize with that. Our proven legal team of experienced defense lawyers proceeds with knowledge and dispatch on behalf of every individual who needs help securing a best-case outcome in a traffic matter.

We welcome contacts to our firm and the opportunity to discuss how diligent legal advocacy can promote a driver’s best interests in a case involving an alleged traffic violation.
