Accuracy. Accuracy. Accuracy.

The consequences of a DUI conviction are life-changing and that is no exaggeration. Even a DUI arrest can wreak havoc on your personal relationships, insurance costs, and your reputation.

With so much at stake, police officers and other law enforcement agents must use the most accurate means in the world of determining whether someone is actually under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of a traffic stop or arrest, right?

Wrong.

As criminal defense attorneys we know how often breath test machines and other equipment are wrong. In fact, it has served as the foundation of many victories that we have obtained for our clients in DUI and DUID cases in Denver and throughout Colorado.

Sadly, if recent news is any indication, things are not getting any better on the accuracy front.

According to a report from Overdrive, law enforcement around the country have been using a cheaply made $2 device to get a quick identification of substances found in vehicles.

When it comes to devices for identifying illicit drugs it turns out you get what you pay for. These devices have resulted in a plague of false positives, turning the lives of innocent people upside down for no reason. In one such case, the device identified good old fashioned baking soda as cocaine.

Needless to say, you can't let the devices law enforcement officers use during a traffic stop determine your future and your freedom. Make sure you have an experienced advocate on your side by calling 303-578-4036.
