Whether you were born in the 80s and had it ready to you as a child, or you are a parent now who has read it to your children, chances are you are familiar with the tale If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

In case you are not, let us fill you in. It's a story of a boy who gives a cookie to a mouse, but the mouse ask for a glass of milk, a straw, a mirror, and so on. It's the classic example of how one small action or event can snowball into a large inconvenience.

When it comes to traffic offenses in Colorado the title could be changed to If You Give a Driver a Ticket

Our version of the story starts with a driver getting a traffic ticket. Let's say it's a speeding ticket. It's just a speeding ticket. Pay it off and move on with your life, right?

Wrong.

This is a common misconception about traffic offenses; the idea that they are somehow minor in nature and can't result in harsh consequences. A single traffic ticket can raise your insurance rates and put a target on your back (or license plate) for the police.

Multiple tickets or traffic violations can lead to the suspension of your license or being classified as a habitual traffic offender (HTO), changing your life dramatically.

If you wind up with a suspended driver's license, it's not like your need to drive will suddenly disappear. You still need a way to get to work, get your kids to school, go to the doctor, or run errands. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that you might get behind the wheel "just this once" rather than hop on the bus. "Just this once" can lead to thousands of dollars in fines and the termination of your driver's license.

Just as giving a mouse one cookie snowballed into giving that mouse everything but the kitchen sink, getting one ticket can end up turning your life upside down.

If you are cited for a traffic violation, you need to make sure it is taken care of by an experienced lawyer focused on protecting your future.
