Greater recreational freedom entails greater responsibility

It's no secret that one of the big winners of the recent election was the turning tide of public opinion regarding marijuana, with nearly all of the states who had legalization initiatives on their ballots passing them. Of course, Colorado has been blazing that particular trail for some time, as one the very first states to pass legalization measures. For some reason, however, many residents of the state are not content to settle for those substances which have been made legal for recreational use -- a lesson each new state experimenting with its own legalization measures will have to face in their own time.

Illustrating this important distinction is the case of a woman who was recently cited for drug possession and careless driving after the van she was driving ran into the side of a building. Authorities are still unclear exactly what caused the crash, but did find drugs in the vehicle.

Colorado is a great state that is leading the way in allowing greater dignity and freedom to her residents, but these freedoms do come with their own share of extra responsibility. While it is unclear at this time whether woman who was driving the van that crashed into the building was in fact under the influence of any substances, for critics of legalization measures, that would an easy assumption to make.

Still, this woman has rights like everyone else and deserves to have them defended excellently. If you have been charged with a drug-related crime, it is important to not assume that Colorado will just let you off the hook because it has expanded freedoms for the recreational use of some substances. With the guidance of an experienced attorney, you can see that your rights are protected and your case is heard fairly, due to the tireless efforts of a top-notch defender.
