Woman faces sexual assault charges for sex with a teenage boy

Sexual assault crimes are not always violent ordeals or the result of unwanted sexual advances. In some cases, sexual assault charges can stem from ostensibly consensual behavior between individuals whom the law does not deem both capable of sexual consent. A Denver woman is facing such charges in relation to her involvement with a young teenage boy.

The woman, who is now 33 years old, is facing sexual assault charges due to her relationship with a boy who was only 14 years old when the relationship began four years ago. To further complicate matters, it appears that the woman has since given birth to two children because of the sexual relationship.

Court documents indicate that the woman met the boy in Garfield park sometime in 2011 or 2012. Following their meeting, she reportedly had sex with the boy many times, resulting in one child being born in 2013, and then another child being born in 2015. The woman is currently facing two charges, and has been released on a bond of $50,000. Her charge of sexual assault on a child is a felony, while the charge of sexual assault with a ten-year age difference is merely a misdemeanor.

Sexual relationships can lead to serious consequences if they are undertaken outside of the law, even those that are seemingly consensual. Just because two or more individuals are agreeing to participate in certain activities, it does not mean that the law does not have something to say about when a person is legally able to make those decisions. Flouting these laws can land you in very serious hot water. If you are involved in a relationship that you believe may carry consequences if not handled correctly, a lawyer with experience in sexual assault law can help guide you in making safe, legal choices.
