Authorities at the border of Utah and Arizona recently arrested a man from Colorado City for a felony sex offender registration violation. Police took the man into custody after learning that he had not done his duty as registered sex offender to update his address.

The man was taken to jail in Mesquite, Nevada, on Tuesday, July 5 after being contacted by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. According to reports, the man had been living in a location he was not registered to for a matter of months, failing to update his information to National Sex Offender Registry.

Authorities confirmed that the Colorado resident was taken into custody without incident, apparently having committed his violations through a misunderstanding of his obligations to the law. The man informed the police that he had gone recently to the city of Kingsman to acquire his court documents and was under the impression that he was no longer required to register himself as a sex offender.

The man, a member of the Fundamentalist LDS Church, was one of several individuals indicted for charges related to underage marriage in 2005. In connection with the charges, he pleaded no contest to child abuse, receiving three years of probation and was ordered to register as a sex offender.

Sex offender charges are very serious and can follow an individual for the rest of his or her life. A person facing such accusations would greatly benefit from the representation of an experienced attorney who can help protect the accused’s rights and ensure a fair hearing of the charges.
