How much will a DUI cost you?

On Behalf of | Nov 20, 2015 | Drunk Driving Charges |

Many people have different ways of answering the question posed in the title of this post. How much does it really cost an individual who is charged with a DUI? For the sake of this topic, we will take this question literally. We won’t go into the personal and professional “costs” of getting charged with a DUI. Instead, we will only refer to the financial costs associated with a DUI. And even without those personal and professional costs, the financial toll of a DUI is immense.

Still, we can only talk about these financial terms in rough figures. Every DUI is going to be a little different, and every case will depend on the laws that apply and the circumstances of the case.

With that said, you can probably expect a DUI to cost you somewhere near a five-figure sum. There will be the penalties and fees associated with your DUI. You will have to deal with the impounding of your vehicle. You will be placed in alcohol treatment and therapy, the bill for which you have to pay. Additionally, you will have to pay for court costs, other associated legal fees and, of course, your insurance rates will go flying through the roof.

While we shy away from exact figures for all of these elements (given that they can vary widely depending on the case), it is still clear that there are some extensive financial penalties here, and anyone convicted of a DUI will have to deal with these costs.
