Fright night: Hundreds of DUI arrests across Colorado on Halloween

On Behalf of | Nov 10, 2015 | Drunk Driving Charges |

They were dressed as Darth Vader and Batman, Elsa and Alice, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man. There were undoubtedly a few French maids on Colorado’s roads on Halloween night, as well as a few vampires, Oreo cookies, hot dogs and gladiators, too. And as a couple hundred drivers found out that night, there were also Denver police officers, state troopers and other law enforcement figures out and about as well.

According to the Department of Transportation, 269 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence that night. As usual, Denver had the most arrests of any city in the state, but Aurora was not far behind.

The DOT website shows that the Denver Police Department recorded 31 DUI/DWI arrests over the Halloween weekend, while Aurora had the second highest total in the state with 27. Colorado Springs had the third highest with 22.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department reported 11 drunk driving arrests, while El Paso County deputies busted 10.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Fort Collins Police Department recorded only a single DUI arrest over the period from Friday, Oct. 30 through Monday, Nov. 2. Boulder police, meanwhile, reported 6 arrests and Northglenn and Thornton each had 7.

Regardless of where in Colorado a person is arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, the consequences they face are harsh: possible jail time, suspension of their driver’s license, significant fines and community service requirements, as well as mandated alcohol education classes, installation of an ignition interlock device and more.
