Where does Denver rank on ‘drunkest cities’ list?

First, add up the bars per capita, and then include the liquor stores per capita. Add in the number of wineries per capita, drinking-related tweets and the city’s divorce rate. That’s how Roadsnacks came up with its list of “10 Drunkest Cities in Colorado.” While it might not be the most scientific study ever undertaken, it’s one of those irresistible lists that give us an idea of how we are perceived by the rest of the world.

While Denver is not in the top spot, it did make the top 10. At the very top of the heap is Aspen “by a landslide.” Roadsnacks cited the city’s apparently super-high divorce rate and an endless stream of geo-specific tweets about how it’s party time in the popular tourist destination.

How did Roadsnacks determine which tweets within a particular city were about drinking? They “measured the following raw number of tweets that came from within a city’s general area: #Drunk, #Party, #Beer, #Wine and #Cocktails.” Using those criteria and the others previously mentioned, the site says Denver is the third “drunkest” Colorado city.

Here’s the list, from top to bottom:

  • Aspen
  • Salida
  • Denver
  • Edgewater
  • Durango
  • Estes Park
  • Carbondale
  • Englewood
  • Avon
  • Golden

“Obviously, there are lots and lots of people getting hammered in Denver every night of the week,” Roadsnacks states. Maybe so. All of that can be perfectly fine as long as people aren’t getting behind the wheel of their car afterwards. It’s the combination of alcohol and driving that makes life dangerous not only for the person behind the wheel, but also for any passengers along for the ride. And for other people on the road, of course.

Much better to designate a sober driver who can get the party from Point A to Point B without the risk of a DUI. Once those police lights flash, you can be facing jail time, significant fines, mandated installation of an ignition interlock, driver’s license suspension and a loss of auto insurance (or at the very least, a painful spike in your rate).

Everyone makes mistakes, however. Many drivers who have made drinking-driving mistakes know they have to pay a price, but they are eager to avoid the very harshest sanctions the law allows. An experienced Denver DUI defense attorney fights for you to keep your license and your freedom.
