Colorado State Patrol: Zero tolerance this weekend

Colorado's Fall Festival enforcement period is one of the longest of the year, running from mid-September through Monday, Oct. 26. The State Patrol said yesterday that it is going to ramp up enforcement this weekend with two goals: zero fatalities and zero tolerance for dangerous driving.

Troopers will be out on Denver's interstate highways looking for distracted drivers, speeding vehicles and DUI offenders. "We are out to combat them all,” said State Patrol Chief Col. Scott Hernandez.

Hernandez discussed the increased enforcement with a Greeley newspaper.

One of the areas you can expect to see the regular presence of police officers is downtown Denver around the clubs, concerts, sporting events, art galleries and conventions.

As we head toward Halloween, there are more and more events downtown focusing on the macabre, from a zombie crawl to an El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) art show to a concert by 1960s rock legends The Zombies, and perhaps scariest of all, a show this Friday night by Vanilla Ice at the Grizzly Rose Saloon and Dance Emporium.

When you're out and about this weekend enjoying undead entertainment or any other kind of fun, please use a designated driver. An arrest for drunken driving is no one's idea of a good time. An arrest and conviction can mean jail time, driver's license suspension, fines, court costs, mandated installation of an ignition interlock device, required alcohol classes and more.

A skilled criminal defense attorney provides vigorous representation at DMV hearings and in negotiations with prosecutors or in court -- all to protect you, your rights, your driving privileges and your freedom.
