Labor Day blues

On Behalf of | Sep 4, 2015 | Drunk Driving Charges |

Every year Denver police and suburban law enforcement agencies vow to put extra patrols on the streets over the Labor Day enforcement period to arrest drunken drivers. Every year, it works.

Since Aug. 21 of this year when the enhanced enforcement began, 260 drivers across Colorado have been arrested for DUI. And the three-day weekend is just now arriving, so it’s quite likely that many more busts are coming.

The Aurora Police Department has already registered 51 arrests. Colorado Springs reports that it has 68 pre-holiday arrests — the very same number of DUI busts here in Denver, by the way.

Some communities and counties have not reported any figures at all so far, which indicates that their arrests to date have simply not been added to the running statewide total maintained by the Colorado Department of Transportation. To give you a bit of perspective on the 260 arrested thus far: last year’s Labor Day crackdown netted 1,102 arrests in the state.

Denver had 162; Aurora Police made 148 arrests; Arapahoe County deputies recorded 22; Colorado Springs had 83; Lakewood 26; and 28 people were taken into custody in Fort Collins on charges of driving under the influence.
