A blemished record can be costly

His coaching record here in Denver at Metro State University is a jaw-dropping list of accomplishments. The Roadrunners have made the NCAA Division II tournament in each of his five years. They've appeared in the national title game, the Final Four, the Elite Eight and the Sweet Sixteen in that time.

His Roadrunners have won an astounding 84 percent of their games, dominating the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and spreading fear everywhere they go. The arc of his spectacular career took an abrupt turn a few nights ago when Auraria Campus police pulled the coach over at the intersection of 7th Street and Colfax Avenue.

The 44-year-old rising coaching star was arrested for drunken driving, according to a TV station report. The university released a statement in which it acknowledged the arrest, and expressed its concern for public safety.

The school's president is going to head an investigation into the incident, the statement said.

Some might dismiss an investigation as merely for public show; the university won't touch a coach who has been so successful. But others will recognize that even if MSU Denver applies light sanctions on Clark, future prospective employers will undoubtedly take notice of the arrest. It is just as certain that some prospective future landing spots for the coach will now banish thoughts of him from their minds.

That's just part of the impact a DUI arrest can have on a stellar career. That's why it is so important for anyone who faces the prospect of a shadow being cast over their vocation by a DUI, DWAI or DUID immediately contact a law firm experienced in defending clients. Minimizing punishments and, if possible, reducing charges with careful negotiations with prosecutors can help shrink the impact on your job and your future prospects.
