Two Denver police officers arrested for alleged drunken driving

Longtime readers will undoubtedly recall some of our previous blog posts about Denver police officers who were arrested for allegedly driving drunk. Two more DPD officers have been arrested in recent days, including one about an hour south of us in Castle Rock.

He was taken into custody by the Colorado State Patrol on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and careless driving, as well as on a weapons charge. The 20-year veteran cop reportedly had his firearm with him while allegedly driving under the influence.

A Denver TV station reports that a second officer was arrested a few days ago by fellow members of the DPD. The 10-year veteran also faces accusations of careless driving and driving under the influence.

While many Denver residents might read of the the officers and feel as if the two men shamed their badges and should be fired from their jobs, there are many others who would urge the city to go slow. After all, the officers are to be presumed innocent until and unless a court finds otherwise.

Many DUI cases start off appearing to be slamdunks for prosecutors, but become problematic for them once an experienced defense attorney begins carefully examining the facts of the matter. The first step for people in the position of having their careers threatened by perhaps a momentary lapse of judgement or by a malfunctioning breathalyzer is to contact an attorney. Not just any attorney, but rather one who fully understands DUI laws and DUI defense.
