St. Patrick's Day: 50 in Denver arrested for DUI

A recurring theme in St. Patrick's Day celebrations is wishes for the luck of the Irish. There are 50 people in Denver today who probably feel as if they are out of luck.

DPD recently reported that its officers arrested 50 drivers during St. Patrick's Day patrols in the city during the five days of enhanced DUI enforcement.

Extra patrols rolled from Friday through Tuesday, St. Patrick's Day. On Friday, 8 people were arrested on DUI charges; on Saturday another 15 were arrested; another 11 on Sunday; Monday saw 5 more drivers taken into custody; and the St. Patty's Day patrols pulled in another 11 on Tuesday.

Aurora police also stepped up their DUI patrols over those five days, taking in 28 drivers on charges of drunk driving. Adams County reported 17 DUI arrests made by enhanced patrols over St. Patrick's Day; the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said its deputies took in a dozen drivers.

The Northglenn Police Department reported arresting 17 people, while Vail police reported 5 DUI offenders and the Thornton PD reported 8.

In all, law enforcement agencies across Colorado reported 492 DUI arrests during the five-day enforcement period.

Each driver now faces a series of questions. Many questions will be about what sort of penalties the drivers potentially face. The bad news is that possible punishments include jail time, fines, probation, required installation of an ignition interlock device and loss of your driver's license. The good news is that with an attorney experienced in DUI defense, you can explore legal options in which you avoid the harshest penalties.
