On Behalf of | Mar 19, 2015 | Drunk Driving Charges |

In Colorado, a multiple DUI convictions often come with the loss of your license. For many people in Denver, living without a valid driver’s license is not easy. Picking up your kids from school is suddenly not an option, and getting to and from is much more difficult. So, what can you do to your license back?

First, it is important to know that you can challenge a DUI charge to avoid losing your license at all. Our attorneys can assess your situation and help build a strong defense to protect you from license revocation. If you are convicted of multiple DUIs, however, there are a few ways you can regain the ability to drive.

One option is SR-22 insurance. This type of insurance is often required if you want to have your license reinstated. You should be able to purchase it through your normal insurance carrier. Staying up to date on payments is important if you regain your license this way. Missing one payment could result in the suspension of your license.

Another way to have your license reinstated is by agreeing to install an ignition interlock device in your car. In Colorado, persistent drunk drivers are usually required to have an interlock device in their car for two years. Although the machine can be an inconvenience, it will allow you to drive as long as you have not been drinking.

The device is essentially a breath test that controls the ignition of your car. If you blow into the machine and you are sober, you will be able to start your car. If your blood alcohol content is too high, you will not be able to start your car.

At Shazam, Kianpour & Associates, P.C., we have extensive experience helping Denver residents reinstate their licenses.
