Get your green on

On Behalf of | Mar 16, 2015 | Drunk Driving Charges |

Just as sure as the sun will rise green and warm on St. Patrick’s Day, the Denver Police Department will have extra patrols out looking for inebriated drivers throughout the celebration of all things Irish.

Let’s take a quick look at a few things you can do tonight and tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, to have a happy St. Patty’s Day.

The first thing, and perhaps most important, is to make sure that you have a designated sober driver before you and your friends begin the evening. That person can fully enjoy the food and camaraderie, but not the alcohol. In this way, everyone will get home safe and sound — and without a DUI hanging over their head.

If no one is interested in being the designated driver for the evening, agree beforehand that you will share alternate transportation for your ride home. Don’t let a drunk friend get behind the wheel of his or her car. Call a taxi or ride-sharing service for that trip home.

If you are going to host a St. Patrick’s Day get-together, be sure that your guests have designated sober drivers or alternate transportation. Also be sure to serve food (preferably not salty snacks that increase thirst) and non-alcoholic beverages.

Remember, too, that the host of a party can in some situations ca be held personally liable for damage caused in motor vehicle accidents caused by drinking and driving.

St. Patrick’s Day is a wonderful, traditional celebration. Please keep it happy, green and safe.
