A Proven Criminal Defense Team

The complications of a Colorado DUI

On Behalf of | Feb 23, 2015 | Drunk Driving Charges |

The first wave of effects a Colorado DUI conviction has on a person are pretty apparent to most people. Jail time, driver’s license suspension, fines, required public service, mandated installation of an ignition interlock device on your car, and so on.

What is less apparent are the complications that these penalties can cause, as well the complications unofficial penalties — those not imposed on you by a court or the DMV — can have on your life.

Many Denver employers now routinely do background checks for criminal records of potential employees. A DUI conviction can raise a red flag that many employers will not overlook or forgive; a red flag that will disqualify you from consideration for a job.

For those who are pursuing a college degree in hopes of one day landing a dream job, a DUI conviction can erect a hurdle standing between you and acceptance into the school of your choice. It can also, in some situations, disqualify you from getting certain types of needed professional licenses and certificates.

And of course, a DUI conviction can make car insurance rates soar, making a job as a driver all but impossible to get or keep, and simply make everyday car travel significantly more expensive.

Don’t get us wrong: a DUI arrest does not mean your world will crumble before your eyes, but it does mean that you and your attorney experienced in drunken driving defense will need to proactively fight to protect your rights, your job and your lifestyle.
