According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city of Denver has a population of nearly 650,000 people. Aurora has about 300,000 fewer residents, for a population approaching 350,000. So which Colorado city had the most DUI arrests this past New Year’s Eve?
The state’s Department of Transportation says the smaller Aurora led the way with 49 DUI arrests over the holiday period that began Tuesday, Dec. 30 and ended Monday, Jan. 5. Denver followed closely with 47.
Aurora police reported making 20 of their arrests on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Denver PD reported only four arrests on New Year’s Eve and another 9 on New Year’s Day.
DPD also reported 9 arrests each on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 3 and 4.
Across the state, there were 67 DUI and DWAI arrests on the 31st and 74 more on the first day of 2015.
Colorado Springs totaled the third highest tally in the state, with 32 drunk driving arrests over the 7-day New Year’s holiday period.
Over the period, 333 drivers were busted on DUI charges in the state. Each and every one of them is now faced with the reality that they must now deal with the Colorado legal system in the new year. For many, that’s a frightening and bewildering prospect.
Most will turn to an experienced DUI defense attorney to help them navigate the system; one who knows how to get charges reduced or dropped and penalties minimized whenever possible in negotiations or at trial.
