Going to a Denver Broncos game? Here are some tailgating tips

As Broncos fans know, the only thing better than a mile-high game at Denver’s Sports Authority Field  is tailgating before the game.

While we encourage fellow fans to enjoy all the festivities, we also want to cheer on everyone who designates a sober driver to safely navigate the post-game traffic. In that way, everyone can relax and enjoy the game, not having to worry about the possibility of a DUI arrest on the way home.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving shares some solid tips for tailgating, some of which we’re going to pass on to you.

At the top of their list is perhaps the best bit of advice: never serve alcohol to someone under 21 years of age. We would add that it’s a crime to serve alcohol to those under the legal drinking age and it exposes the young person to criminal sanctions as well.

It’s a good idea to separate coolers containing adult beverages from people under 21. Also, bring water to make sure everyone stays hydrated.

It’s also an excellent idea to have a designated driver, as mentioned, but to as well have the number of a taxi company or ride-share service handy in case a friend or other fellow fan needs to be driven home.

In addition, bring to the tailgating party non-alcoholic beverages for the designated driver and those who are not yet of legal drinking age.

Of course, food is a big component of most pre-game parties, but it’s wise not to make many of the snacks salty. Those kinds of foods can increase thirst and thereby prod folks to drink more than they might otherwise.

Also, please remember that mistakes do happen. If you find yourself facing a DUI charge, talk over the evidence, circumstances and your options with an attorney experienced in defending clients in these matters.
