How do you get your Colorado driver’s license back?

On Behalf of | Sep 26, 2014 | Driving While License Suspended |

The causes for suspension of a Colorado driver’s license can include everything from street racing to attempting to elude a police officer to leaving the scene of an accident. Of course, suspensions can also be handed down because a person is convicted of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, as well as driving while ability is impaired by alcohol (DWAI), among other infractions.

The question many have after getting their license suspended by the Division of Motor Vehicles is “how do I get my driver’s license back?” Attorneys experienced in DUI cases and other serious charges know how difficult life can be without a license. That is why they focus on helping clients get back behind the wheels of their vehicles so that they can hold jobs, pursue education, run errands, take their children to school, etc.

Pursuit of reinstatement can include a DMV hearing at which you and your attorney can tell the hearing officer about the facts of your case. Please note that you can appeal the decision of the hearing officer to the District Court in Denver.

The hearing officer will determine whether or not you should be granted driving privileges during a suspension (if a suspension is decided upon). If you have been arrested for DUI, you could face a hearing on whether you can drive with an interlock ignition device and if you need to meet certain insurance requirements.

Those facing DMV hearings as well as criminal court proceedings often rely on a criminal defense attorney to help them navigate the legal system and pursue favorable outcomes.
