300 arrested in Colorado over Super Bowl weekend

After anxiously waiting for more than a decade, Denver Broncos fans got the chance to watch their team play in the Super Bowl this year.

While the game ended up being a disappointment for many when the Seattle Seahawks took an early lead and ended up winning 43-8, things only got worse for fans who ended up being accused of drunk driving over the weekend.

As we warned before the event, Colorado police had extra DUI enforcements on the roads between Jan. 31 and Feb. 3 in effort to crack down on football fans who chose to drink and drive.

According to a recent report from the Colorado Department of Transportation, more than 300 DUI arrests were made in the state during the Super Bowl weekend this year. Police say they handed out a total of 315 DUI citations to drivers who they believed were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The highest concentration of arrests was in Denver, the department reported, where 40 DUI arrests were made. The cities with the second- and third-highest number of DUI arrests during Super Bowl weekend were Aurora and Colorado Springs, respectively.

Colorado law enforcement officials say the next time DUI enforcement is ramped up will be over St. Patrick’s Day weekend, March 14-17.

Any time an individual is charged with DUI, it’s important to act fast in order to put his or her best defense forward. DUI convictions can ruin a person’s life, potentially resulting in license suspensions, heavy fines and a permanent criminal record.

DUI suspects need to know that there are different options available to them, and they don’t need to automatically plead guilty to the charges.
