Man arrested for alleged sex crime, reported by nun

On Behalf of | Dec 20, 2013 | Sexual Assault |

A man was arrested after a nun reported that a girl attending a Catholic school in another state had told her that she was touched inappropriately, by a man in Colorado. The man was arrested and charged with suspicion of sexually abusing a minor on Wednesday.

The girl reported the alleged abuse to a nun at her school and the bishop of the school. Authorities say that the abuse happened between October 2010 and September 2013. When someone is accused of a sex crime involving a child they should take charges very seriously. Allegations of sex crimes can quickly result in reputation damage and make it difficult for a person to get a fair trial in Colorado.

If someone is convicted of a sex crime, they might be forced to register as a sexual offender in their state. This can result in their isolation in a community as sometimes they are required to notify a community of their living arrangements or intent to move.

Although a great deal of sensitivity is needed in cases such as this, it is equally important that an accused person is treated innocent until proven otherwise. Because of the nature of the accusations, it can be very difficult for a person to receive fair treatment. An attorney in Colorado can help an accused person ensure they are treated fairly throughout the criminal court process. Any violation of a person’s rights could result in their wrongful conviction, years in prison and a lifetime labelled as a sexual offender.
