Jury finds woman innocent of several driving offenses

When a person in the Denver area has been arrested or charged with drunk driving it is very important for him or her to take the right steps immediately. Making the wrong choices could lead to harsher penalties and stiff consequences. It is important to understand how the law works in DUI cases and how to best defend one’s self.

A 47-year-old woman, who was facing several serious charges, including felony fleeing police, hit-and-run and DUI, has been acquitted of all charges. A jury has decided that the woman was not the one who was actually behind the wheel when the incident occurred. The woman could have spent as much as 13 years in prison if she had been convicted.

The woman was facing the charges after authorities arrested her following a wild chase. According to reports when officers attempted to stop the vehicle it wouldn’t pull over; a chase ensued. After a police cruiser was hit, the car was eventually stopped. A man jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. He was never found or identified. Officers then arrested the woman as the driver. The pursuing officer testified that the woman was driving the vehicle. However, two witnesses testified that the man who fled was the driver and not the woman.

As this case proves, even though the evidence against this woman appeared to be very damaging, she was still acquitted of all charges. Anyone who finds his or herself facing these types of allegations should not lose hope. Contacting an experienced DUI attorney should probably be the first move a person makes after being arrested or charged with a DUI.
