A woman has been charged with a variety of violations regarding an alleged traffic chase that ended with her supposedly crashing a vehicle in a Denver suburb. It is claimed that a high speed chase actually involved two separate vehicles with one of the vehicles eluding the authorities.
After the vehicle that the woman was driving crashed, it was said that the woman ran into a nearby office building, pulled a fire alarm, put on a pair of janitor’s overalls taken from a closet, and she then took out a broom, dustpan and apron in a supposed effort to put on a disguise. The woman was then reportedly arrested outside of the building at around 10:40 in the morning, and police took her to a hospital.
Charges brought against the woman included vehicle theft, burglary, failure to pull over, possession of burglary tools, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, obstructing an arresting officer, and the alteration of a stolen license plate tab sticker.
Though we can never be sure from what little is reported concerning this incident, there may well have been other issues involved here beyond any intent to do wrongdoing. According to a police affidavit, the woman purportedly told investigators that “she had been forced to take drugs by people over the last four days,” and that “she had last injected drugs on the morning of the incident.” She claimed that someone else had injected her with methamphetamine and heroin.
Though the offenses that the woman has been charged with are extremely serious in nature, the woman’s mental state will likely be at issue here. Unfortunately, some people simply do not know what they are doing when involved in a crime spree. That may or may not be the case here, but individuals charged, even if the charges are accurate, have the right to tell their side of the story and be represented by a competent criminal defense attorney that can make certain that the needs of their client are addressed.
