Brittney Brashers, 22, died in a Colorado car crash this past November, at least that is what Denver police were told by Brashers’ boyfriend. Robert Walters was with Brashers at the time of the so-called fatal car accident and claimed that it was actually the result of Brashers driving drunk.
According to sources, Denver investigators had a difficult time believing they knew the whole truth behind Brashers’ death. The young couple had a history between them of domestic violence, plus something about the accident didn’t feel right.
The fact that an autopsy did not clearly identify the cause of Brashers’ death did not help investigators pinpoint what felt wrong about the incident. A revelation by Walters’ estranged wife, however, has pointed them in a disturbing but more focused direction.
The estranged wife told police that Walters had told her how Brashers did not die in the crash and that the car accident wasn’t an accident at all. The accident was Walters’ effort to hide that he had murdered Brashers before the collision.
The affidavit says that Walters and Brashers were arguing in the car, and Walters beat Brashers and then killed her so she would not report the domestic violence to police. Walters then allegedly set up Brashers’ dead body in the driver’s seat without buckling her seat belt and then accelerated and crashed the car.
After the impact sent Brashers into the windshield, witnesses report hearing Walters shouting for help and desperately clinging to Brashers in his arms — a scene that police are now reporting was potentially a complete act.
Walters, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court in September.
