Consider if the area is well lit and if there are other cars parked nearby. If it is in an area where people can see someone breaking in, then nobody is going to want to try. The same principle applies with being around many people. Thieves are most likely to operate when they believe their actions can go unnoticed. Try to avoid parking in unauthorized areas where nobody goes.
Keep valuables covered
Valuables include more than cellphones and other loose items. GPS units, radios and sound systems and even doors are common items that are stolen. When leaving a vehicle parked in an undesirable location or for longer than a couple hours, it is a good idea to cover things up. A detachable radio can easily be kept in a center console or glove box. A cellphone that is left to charge is just asking for a break-in.

If a vehicle has been subject to theft or a break-in, there are steps that can be taken to reduce losses and possibly even recover the car. A hidden tracking device is a car thief’s nightmare. While every precaution may be taken, some cars, like the Chevrolet Silverado or the Honda Accord, are just more likely to be stolen.
