What are some ways a license becomes invalid?

On Behalf of | May 5, 2016 | Driving While License Suspended |

In order to drive legally on Colorado’s roadways, you need to have a valid driver’s license. If you are pulled over by police officers and don’t have a valid driver’s license, you can face criminal charges. It is important that anyone who is driving without a valid license understands what a few different terms mean. If you are facing criminal charges for driving under any of these conditions, you are likely going to face serious penalties if you are ultimately convicted. With that in mind, it might be beneficial to explore defense options.

What is a suspended license?

A suspended driver’s license means that you have temporarily lost your driving privileges. When the suspended period is completed, the license must be reinstated. If the license expired during the suspension period, it must be re-issued. A written test will have to be passed in order to regain your driving privileges.

What is a revocation?

A revocation occurs when you completely lose your driving privileges. The driver’s license is considered invalid. You can’t have the driver’s license reissued for any reason. Generally, you will have to pass a driving test and written test in order to receive a new license if you are allowed a driver’s license reinstatement.

What are denials and cancellations?

A cancellation of a driver’s license renders it void. You might be able to prevent this from occurring if you comply with the cancellation prior to the date on which the cancellation would become effective. A cancellation/denial is an action that is taken which will render the license void. In this case, you will likely have to retake the driving tests prior to getting your license.
