Is possessing alcohol prohibited for those under the age of 21?

The possession of alcohol is prohibited in most cases if a person is under the age of 21. However, there are exceptions. If the minor was with a parent or guardian at a private location, then possession is not illegal.

Is consuming alcohol illegal if you’re under 21 in Colorado?

Once again, any time you drink under the age of 21, it’s illegal except for if you’re with a parent or guardian in a private location. For instance, if you’re at home and your parents offer you alcohol with dinner, that’s perfectly legal. However, drinking alcohol at a bar with friends would not be legal, since you have no guardian and are in a public location where you shouldn’t be served.

Can I purchase alcohol under the age of 21 if it’s for a parent or guardian?

There is no legal reason that any person under the age of 21 can purchase alcohol. Anyone under the age of 21 who is caught purchasing alcohol can be charged. On top of this, there is also no allowance for purchases by underage youth working for police.
