Yes, there’s an app for when you’re pulled over for DUI

There are tens of thousands of apps that do everything from help people dress and eat, find dates, find mates, find phones and find themselves, that it seems it might be easier to list the things that apps don’t do than to list all the things they can do.

Now there’s an app that helps people who have been pulled over on suspicion of drunken driving. The application developed by DUI attorneys far from Colorado is designed to help drivers understand their rights in that moment of need.

The playfully titled “Oh crap app” might become a popular addition to smartphones, but at this point, its fans do not include law enforcement officials. But then they’re not the intended audience for the application.

An Iowa attorney involved in the app’s development said, “One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that they know their rights.”

So when a person sees those police lights go on, they can start up the app, which then lists their legal rights. It can also give an estimate of their blood alcohol content and has a button that activates the phone’s voice recorder.

In that way, all the conversation between the driver and police officer is recorded for possible use later in court.

The app’s dispensed advice to pulled-over driver is succinct, according to a CNN article: “be polite,”  “the less you say, the better” and perhaps best of all, “lawyer up.”

Most people pulled for DUI will want legal advice and assistance from an attorney experienced in helping protect clients’ rights and driving privileges in DUI cases.
