Glendale Heights man arrested on DUI suspicion

There are a number of people across the country that consume alcoholic beverages and arrange for transportation home if they have had too much to drink. There are, however, occasions when a person is unaware that the amount of alcohol that he or she has had to drink has exceeded the legal limit. There are some serious penalties when a person in Colorado has been arrested and found guilty of driving while alcohol impaired.

Law enforcement officers found a vehicle belonging to a 74-year-old Glendale Heights man parked over the curb and next to a sidewalk. The owner of the vehicle was reportedly arrested five previous times for drunk driving. Authorities arrested and charged him with his sixth repeat DUI offense. It is unclear whether or not the man was in his vehicle at the time of the arrest, or if he was elsewhere.

Although the man has a history of prior DUIs, it is uncertain how law enforcement officers determined that he was drunk. The man faces multiple charges including improper lane use, parking on the roadway and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers took the man to jail where he was held on $25,000 bond. His car was collected from the roadway and is also being held.

The penalties for drunk driving can be serious, especially for repeat offenders. While law enforcement officers can charge and arrest people, the courts can mandate a person’s license be suspended or revoked entirely. There may be fines, jail time and social stigma. A person may also find it difficult to obtain auto insurance. When people find themselves charged with a DUI, they may find it helpful to speak with an experienced attorney.
