When multiple law enforcement agencies work together, they could miscommunicate, or mishandle evidence that might result in a wrongful conviction. If multiple people are then accused of a related crime, the case can be extremely complicated.

Fifteen people were recently indicted and 11 people were arrested for an alleged international drug smuggling ring from Mexico to Colorado. According to reports, the people are accused of violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act. They have been charged with a pattern of racketeering and conspiring to distribute meth and cocaine. These charges are extremely serious.

Investigators and authorities involved in this case say the people involved smuggled meth using sealed flavored-water containers across the Mexico border. Once across the border it is alleged that the people put the liquid meth into windshield washer reservoirs of SUVs in order to drive them to Colorado.

Because of the complexity and severity of the charges the people face, the case might go on for a lengthy period of time, and it is important that those accused understand their rights. People charged with similar drug crimes in Colorado might be wise to speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney. They can help a person understand their rights and work to protect their reputation.

Sometimes people are mistreated during the arrest or questioning process. An attorney can help evaluate what has happened in the case and ensure the accused are treated fairly throughout the process. A conviction for a drug crime could result in many difficulties for a person in addition to the sentence they serve.
