It is alleged that a motorcycle rider was traveling at speeds of up to 130 miles per hour before entering into the state of Colorado. A police pursuit of the rider eventually led to the motorcyclist being pulled over north of Fort Collins. However, nobody was injured while the chase allegedly went on, and the motorcyclist was apparently not observed in breaking any Colorado laws.
The motorcyclist is a Colorado resident. Troopers from a neighboring state apparently lost track of the rider at one point, but Colorado State Patrol members are said to have tracked him down while using an airplane in an attempt to locate where the rider was at.
Whether the allegations are or are not correct, the motorcyclist will likely face a significant amount of traffic violation charges – many of which that will have significant criminal penalties and fines. However, it must be remembered that what so far has been asserted concerning the motorcycle rider are only allegations rather than proof of actual wrongdoing.
There is the question as to whether the rider was actually traveling at 130 miles per hour. It’s also significant that no Colorado law enforcement official observed the motorcycle rider engaging in any unlawful conduct. Finally, there is always the possibility that the rider was mistakenly identified as a motorcyclist traveling at high speeds.
In any case, criminal defense attorneys representing anyone accused of some sort of traffic violation will want to make certain that allegations are based upon actual proof – not just estimations of speed or guesswork.
